My Heart in the East
My heart in the East (2022) is a four-part polyptych that combines painting, drawing and pasting paper onto wood. n this work Serlin blends images and parts of images from varied sources: there are decorations and symbols from headstones, Jewish ritual objects, a pair of fish that emphasizes the inner golden circle divided between the two central panels, oil lamps reminiscent of synagogue ceilings from the Ottoman period, and various other visual hidden treasures that she enlarges and diminishes, duplicates and alters.
