Living flags Zumo
On the facade of the building, Hapa’amonit 22, one of the tallest buildings in the neighborhood, six flags created by the artist Yael Serlin are flying. On the flags the artist sewed symbols that were created from stories told by the neighbors themselves, and that relate to the neighborly relations among them. During the work, Serling invited all of the building’s residents to the entrance floor for several meetings where they got to know one another and tell their family stories to the group. Serlin adapted the stories and the meetings and created six giant symbols that are shared by the residents, and sewed them from remnants of clothes and material. She hung them on the building’s facade as witness to the meeting, the neighborliness and the life that takes place within.
