Districts of memory
In this work, presented at the Edirnelis Exhibition, Serlin collected memories from people who were born in Edirne, Turkey. While reading the memories the artist realized that they all take place in three places: the bridge, the home, and the synagogue. Serlin creates a digital printing of these places based on pictures that she found in public archives. In her attempt to create copied objects from memorial sites she creates molds of these places. The work on districts of memory portrays the model of the miniature bridge as a space of absence. Next to it in the Edirnelis Exhibition was a video filmed under the Edirne bridge as a double projection, simulating folded paper.
